Once the home of a Scottish spice merchant, this colonial house built in the 1860s has been converted into a small hotel which exudes a country house atmosphere. With seven highly individual bedrooms, it is well known for its fine dining, privacy, and eclectic collection of artwork, books, and furniture. Perched high on a hill, yet only a five-minute stroll away from the center of the seaside town of Galle, The Sun House offers panoramic views of the Galle and the World Heritage site of Galle Fort.
At The Sun House, we offer our guests the chance to be transported back to the early tea planters' relaxed lifestyles when a day began with a hearty breakfast and finished with a cocktail at sunset.
This glorious house has been renovated to maintain its colonial charm and elegance. The large central living area is the heart of the house. Here, at the end of the day, guests can browse through our vast and interesting library, sink into a relaxing sofa, or listen to whatever music takes their fancy. Drinks or cocktails are available: anything from a pot of up-country tea to something a little stronger like the famous “Sun House Sour." Our mixologist would be delighted to mix up a surprise cocktail at Dick’s Bar, located at the Sun House, and nominated as one of the world's best cocktail bars. Unsurprising that it has become Galle’s meeting point of choice.
